Gadsden County Hurricane Michael Recovery Updates

Gadsden County Hurricane Michael Recovery Efforts Update 

Nearly a week after Hurricane Michael landed in Florida as a Category 4 storm, Gadsden County continues to work around the clock to ensure the safety and welfare of its citizens. Citizens are reminded of a mandatory curfew in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The curfew is in effect until further notice. Additionally, Gadsden County Emergency Management Officials urge citizens to not burn debris as it could lead to wildfires. Gadsden County will notify residents of a debris pick-up schedule once it becomes available. Recovery efforts are expected to last well into November. Severely affected areas include Chattahoochee, Greensboro, Hardaway and Sycamore. 

Individual Assistance from FEMA Available to Gadsden County Residents

Gadsden County has been declared for Individual Assistance by FEMA. Citizens may at or call 1 (800) 621-3362.

When applying, FEMA will ask for the following information:

Citizens are reminded to keep up with all documents, receipts and confirmation numbers.

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office continues to enforces a mandatory curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Citizens should be prepared to be stopped by law enforcement if the curfew is violated. 
Meal Distribution 
Second Harvest will be distributing MREs, water, snacks and non perishables at the Old USDA Building in Quincy, FL at the corner of Cone and Florida Ave. on Monday, October 15 at noon. 
Salvation Army will be distributing meals at Crossroads Academy in Quincy from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 
Water Distribution Sites 
The following sites will be distributing water, MREs and tarps (as supplies last) on a daily basis from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:
• Gadsden County Jail – Quincy, FL
• Johnny Johnson Pavilion – Chattahoochee, FL 
• Eugene Lamb Park – Havana, FL
• Havana Public Library – Havana, FL 
• Greensboro Elementary – Greensboro, FL 
The Quincy Shuttle, Gadsden Express and Gadsden Connector will provide free shuttles for citizens until October 31. 
Office Openings
City of Midway - Monday, October 15 (Offices will be held at the Midway Emergency Operations Center/Fire Department, 1535 MLK St.) 
City of Gretna - Monday, October 15
City of Quincy - Monday, October 15 
Gadsden County Offices will remain closed through Friday, October 19 due to damages to the Edward J. Butler Building.
Gadsden County Schools will remain closed through Friday, October 19.

Citizens are reminded to move debris to the curbside in order for it to be picked up. Debris crews are not able to pick up on private property. A debris schedule will be provided 

Law Enforcement 
A Looting Task Forces has been created to prevent break-ins to local businesses. Call 911 if you see suspicious activity. 
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to report price gouging and scams by calling 1 (866) 9NO-SCAM or 1 (866) 966-7226.
Shelter Locations
Gadsden County shelters have been consolidated to one location at Gadsden County High School. The shelter also serves as a special needs shelter. Security is still on location.
