Hurricane Recovery

Gadsden County Hurricane Michael Recovery Efforts Updates – Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Citizens are reminded of the updated, mandatory curfew in effect from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. until further notice.  Additionally, Gadsden County Emergency Management Officials urge citizens to not burn debris as it could lead to wildfires. Gadsden County will notify residents of a debris pick-up schedule once it becomes available. Recovery efforts are expected to last well into November. Severely affected areas include Chattahoochee, Greensboro, Hardaway and Sycamore. 

Individual Assistance from FEMA Available to Gadsden County Residents

Gadsden County has been declared for Individual Assistance by FEMA. Citizens may at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1 (800) 621-3362.

When applying, FEMA will ask for the following information:

  • Address if damaged home or apartment
  • Names of people living in the household
  • Description of damages
  • Social Security Number
  • Contact phone number
  • Mailing address

Citizens are reminded to keep up with all documents, receipts and confirmation numbers.

Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP)

The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) gives food assistance to low-income households with food loss or damage caused by a natural disaster.

Florida residents may call 1-866-762-2237 for more information about how to apply for benefits.

Curfew

The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office has amended the mandatory, county-wide curfew to begin at 10 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. The curfew applies to all citizens and business in the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county.

Burn Ban

Gadsden County has issued a county-wide burn ban. Gadsden County residents are being asked to move storm debris to the curbside in order to be picked up. 

Boil Water Notice

A boil water notice has been issued for Pat Thomas RV Park. No other boil water notices have been issued at this time.

Debris Pick Up

Gadsden County will begin debris pick up the week of October 15-19. A schedule will be announced as soon as it is finalized.  

Water Distribution Sites 

The following sites will continue to distribute items on a daily basis from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Gadsden County Jail – Quincy, FL
  • Johnny Johnson Pavilion – Chattahoochee, FL 
  • Eugene Lamb Park – Havana, FL
  • Havana Public Library – Havana, FL 
  • Greensboro Elementary – Greensboro, FL 

Meal Distribution 

The Salvation Army will be serving meals at the following locations:

  • 100 S Main Street, Chattahoochee City, FL
  • 1323 W Crawford St, Quincy, FL

Transportation

The Quincy Shuttle, Gadsden Express and Gadsden Connector will provide free shuttles until October 31. 

Office Openings

  • City of Midway (Offices will be held at the Midway Emergency Operations Center/Fire Department, 1535 MLK St.) 
  • City of Gretna
  • City of Quincy 

Closures

  • Gadsden County Offices will remain closed through Friday, October 19 due to damages to the Edward J. Butler Building
  • Gadsden County Schools will remain closed through Friday, October 19.

Road Closures

All major roadways are open.

Law Enforcement 

A Looting Task Forces has been created to prevent break-ins to local businesses. Call 911 if you see suspicious activity. 

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to report price gouging and scams by calling 1 (866) 9NO-SCAM or 1 (866) 966-7226.

Shelter Locations

Gadsden County shelters have been consolidated to one location at Gadsden County High School. The shelter no longer serves as a special needs shelter.
