Animal Control

The Division of Animal Control is made up of two full-time employees. They report to the Department Director who reports to the County Administrator. The purpose of this division is to control unwanted animals (cats and dogs) throughout the County and to respond to citizen complaints who are bothered by unwanted animals. There is a major need for animal control and this division answers the call of all citizens or visitors to the county who may be faced with an animal control problem.
The environmental factors that affect this division include having to retrieve dangerous animals. The very nature of the way that animals have to be removed or rescued may require employees to be placed in dangerous situations and small crawl spaces. The challenge facing this division is finding homes to take in some of the animals. The laws governing this division include Florida Statute Chapter 273, Section 372.265, Chapter 767, Chapter 828, Chapter 877 and Florida Sunshine laws.
